Write for us
We welcome well-shaped proposals about the culture of leisure: a pastime with an overlooked history, the design of a game, the life of a club, a collecting habit or an outing that invites a closer look. A pitch should offer readers a distinct idea, not just a broad subject.
What makes a good pitch
Tell us the proposed subject, the central question and what a reader will understand by the end. Explain why the angle is distinct from familiar introductions to the topic, and include a short note about your connection to it. We welcome reported, historical, explanatory and reflective approaches, provided factual claims can be checked and opinion is clear.
Before sending
Keep the proposal concise and specific. Mention whether the idea has been published elsewhere, and disclose any relevant commercial connection. Do not send confidential material or assume a pitch has been accepted before we reply. We cannot promise publication or a response time.
Where to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include the working title and pitch in your message. Please do not send a complete manuscript unless we have requested one.
Free time deserves close attention
Leisure is not merely a pause between obligations. Its pleasures, habits and shared customs tell us something about how we choose to spend our hours.
